NDLEA Arrests Mother and Son in Lagos Drug Raid
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Muyibat Mumuni, 52, and her son Faruk Mumuni, 25, in Lagos for allegedly storing and distributing 298 blocks of Ghana Loud cannabis weighing 149kg.
The duo was apprehended on Wednesday, August 13, at Ladega Street, Mushin, after NDLEA officers stormed their hideout following credible intelligence reports.
Another Arrest in Lekki: 8.5kg of Canadian Loud Seized
In a related operation, NDLEA operatives also arrested Emmanuel Samuel on Friday, August 15, at the Ajah axis of Lekki. Officers recovered 8.5kg of Canadian Loud, another high-grade strain of cannabis, from his apartment.
According to NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the arrests were part of a series of nationwide raids that led to massive seizures of cannabis, tramadol, ketamine, and other illicit substances.
Drug Busts in Northern Nigeria
Gombe: Tramadol Seizure
On Monday, August 11, NDLEA operatives in Gombe arrested Sani Mohammed, 32, at Jauro Jatau with 128,000 capsules of tramadol.
Kogi: Intercepted Consignment on Okene-Lokoja Highway
Along the Okene-Lokoja highway, NDLEA officers intercepted a commercial bus driven by Sulaiman Oyedokun, 47. A search revealed 337,800 capsules of tramadol concealed inside the vehicle. The consignment was reportedly being transported from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Kontagora, Niger State.
Cannabis Farms and Drug Networks Busted
Taraba: Farmland Destruction
In Taraba State, NDLEA operatives, working with the Sardauna Emirate Council and the Nigeria Forest Hunters Security Service, raided Tanmiya Forest in Sardauna LGA on Tuesday, August 12.
The raid led to the destruction of 4.5 hectares of cannabis farmland, cultivating an estimated 11,250kg of cannabis.
Days later, on Saturday, August 16, NDLEA operatives seized 29,840 capsules of tramadol from Saleh Babangida, 20, at a checkpoint in Wukari.
Kaduna: Tramadol, Rohypnol, and Cannabis Seized
Four suspects were taken into custody in separate incidents across Kaduna:
Mohammed Amdife, 46, and Sulaiman Mohammed, 22, were arrested at checkpoints in Zaria and Tudun Wada with 22,640 pills of tramadol and rohypnol.
Caroline David, 51, and Abdulhadi Umar, 30, were nabbed after officers intercepted 111.1kg of cannabis along the Zaria-Kano Road.
Edo: Cannabis Warehouses Dismantled
NDLEA operatives in Edo made significant seizures last week:
On Wednesday, August 13, officers recovered 24 bags of cannabis weighing 432kg from a bush along the Warake-Auchi Road in Etsako West LGA.
On Thursday, August 14, another 130kg of cannabis was seized from a warehouse in Sobe, Owan West LGA.
Kano: Street-Level Drug Arrests
In Kano, two suspects were arrested in separate operations:
Tahiru Madu Manga, 25, was caught with 16kg of cannabis along the Zaria-Kano Road.
Ibrahim Audu, 47, was arrested at Gadar Tamburawa with 76kg of cannabis on Wednesday, August 13.
Lagos-Badagry Highway: Ketamine Seizure
At the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Lagos highway, NDLEA operatives intercepted 4,320 ampoules of ketamine injection on Monday, August 11. A suspect, Akeem Adegun, was immediately arrested.
NDLEA’s Nationwide Crackdown
The NDLEA confirmed that these operations were part of a coordinated national crackdown on drug trafficking, with raids conducted simultaneously across multiple states.
According to Babafemi, the agency remains committed to dismantling drug cartels and protecting communities from the devastating effects of illicit drugs.
