Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
His swearing-in took place on Monday following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda, who had served as Speaker for 49 days.
Meranda stepped down after a meeting with Obasa and other lawmakers outside the Assembly chambers.
Obasa was initially impeached in January over allegations of misappropriation, leading to Meranda’s appointment as Speaker. However, in February, he returned to the Assembly and declared that he had never been removed.
Monday’s reinstatement followed a closed-door meeting attended by Lagos APC Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi and the state’s Attorney General. It also came after a stakeholder meeting on Sunday night involving Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other party leaders.
