Marrakech – Morocco’s hosting of AFCON 2025 generated over €1.5 billion (MAD 16 billion) in direct revenue, enough to cover 80% of the infrastructure needed for the 2030 World Cup, Industry and Commerce Minister Ryad Mezzour revealed.
The financial success stemmed from a record influx of 600,000 tournament-specific visitors, contributing to a historic 20 million tourist arrivals in 2025 — a 14% increase from the previous year. The spending surge revitalized sectors including transport, hospitality, restaurants, and handicrafts.
Mezzour described the €2.3 billion invested in the tournament as a “sovereign investment” in infrastructure with lasting benefits. Nine stadiums were built or renovated, alongside improvements to roads, airports, and public services, creating over 100,000 jobs and training thousands of young Moroccans to international standards.
The AFCON also delivered significant technological and operational gains. Morocco deployed 5G, digital ticketing, and digital ID systems, streamlining operations while attracting new investments. Consumption in the commercial sector rose 25–30%, and overall economic growth is projected to exceed 4.5%.
CAF also saw record revenues. Morocco’s hosting increased commercial partners from 17 in 2023 to 23, with tournament revenues exceeding $192 million and net profits estimated at $113.8 million — far surpassing previous editions. Morocco’s expected 20% share of CAF’s broadcast and sponsorship revenues, initially estimated at $22.5 million, is likely to rise.
With nearly 2 billion viewers and 10 billion social media interactions, Morocco’s AFCON 2025 demonstrated unprecedented revenue generation, establishing a strong financial and infrastructural foundation for the 2030 World Cup.
