Family Restricts Wunmi From Using Surname
The family of the late singer, Mohbad, has formally barred his widow, Wunmi, from using their family name Aloba until the ongoing DNA test confirms the paternity of their son, Liam.
This decision was contained in a new statement issued by the family head, Omolayo Aloba, and co-signed by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba.
Family Claims No Legal or Traditional Marriage
According to the family, Wunmi is not entitled to use the surname because no statutory or traditional marriage was ever completed between her and the late singer.
They stated that the Yoruba traditional rites, including the payment of bride price, were never fulfilled, and as such, “no valid marriage existed between the late Mohbad and Omowunmi Adebanjo.”
Background: Ongoing Paternity Dispute
The restriction comes in the middle of a heated paternity dispute over Liam, following Mohbad’s controversial death on September 12, 2023.
The singer died after receiving an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse. His body was later exhumed due to public demand for a thorough investigation.
However, in May 2025, the inquiry suffered a major setback when pathologists announced that the cause of death could not be determined.
Legal Representation and Estate Administration
In the new family directive:
Oladayo Ogungbe has been appointed as the sole legal representative for all matters concerning the DNA case and the late singer’s estate.
Wahab Shittu will continue to handle all interactions with investigative authorities on issues related to Mohbad’s death.
The family added that both Wunmi and Liam will only be included in the administration of Mohbad’s estate if the DNA test confirms that Liam is the late singer’s biological child.
