Purple Mall Sealed Indefinitely After Fatal Incident in Lekki
The Lagos State Government has sealed off Purple Mall in Lekki indefinitely following a tragic incident that claimed the life of a young Nigerian in the mall’s parking lot on Wednesday.
According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the closure is to ensure public safety while a full investigation is conducted into the cause of the fatal event.
Government Launches Full Investigation
Commissioner Wahab announced that a specialised investigation team has been constituted to determine the root cause of the structural failure that led to the tragic death.
“The investigation will focus on uncovering the immediate and underlying causes of the incident, assessing the mall’s compliance with existing building and safety regulations, and identifying any environmental or structural violations,” Wahab said.
He described the accident as “entirely preventable” and promised that full accountability would be enforced.
Condolences and Assurance of Justice
Wahab extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring the public that the government is taking all necessary measures to prevent future tragedies.
“Lagosians deserve safe public spaces, and we will not compromise on this,” he emphasized.
He also committed to providing regular updates as the investigation progresses.

The commissioner reiterated the Lagos State Government’s resolve to strictly enforce environmental and safety regulations across all commercial and public infrastructures in the state.
