The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old boy, Solomon Ibiwoye, after he was found in possession of a firearm in the Ebute-Ero area of the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, made the announcement on his X handle on Sunday, commending vigilant residents whose quick actions led to the teenager’s arrest.
“Kudos to observant Lagosians who noticed 16-year-old Solomon Ibiwoye with a firearm and discreetly alerted Ebute-Ero Police Division,” Hundeyin said in his post.
A subsequent search of Ibiwoye’s residence resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm and an unexpended cartridge.
“Another firearm off the streets,” Hundeyin wrote, while assuring the public that investigations into the case are ongoing. He also highlighted the importance of public vigilance in preventing crime, urging people to report suspicious activity.
“See something, say something!” he emphasized.
The police spokesperson did not reveal how the teenager acquired the firearm or if he was connected to any criminal group, but assured that the investigation would be thorough.
