Lagos Equips 1,664 Public Schools with Sports Equipment to Boost Youth Development
The Lagos State Government has distributed modern sports equipment to 1,664 public schools across the state, in a major initiative aimed at enhancing youth development and sports education in schools.
The distribution, which took place on Thursday, was facilitated by the Lagos State Sports Trust Fund (LSSTF) and impacted 1,020 primary schools and 644 secondary schools across all six education districts and 20 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs).
Wide Range of Sports Equipment Distributed Across Schools
Enhancing Talent with Modern Sports Gear
Among the items distributed were:
Table tennis boards
Football and basketball kits
Running vests and pants
Spike shoes
Volleyballs
Tennis rackets
Chess sets with clocks
Scrabble and draught boards with dictionaries
First aid boxes fully equipped with medical kits
These items were handed over to the Tutor-Generals/Permanent Secretaries of the state’s six educational districts for onward distribution to schools.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, represented by Kamar Olowosago, Permanent Secretary of the Land Bureau, said the initiative reflects Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s six-year commitment to advancing education and youth engagement.
“In the last six years, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration has shown great commitment to our students through the continuous improvement of school infrastructure, which ultimately enhances the teaching and learning environment,” Agoro noted.

Former Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Enitan Oshodi, who attended the event as a special guest, commended the LSSTF for investing in modern sports infrastructure at the grassroots level.
Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, Olaposi Agunbiade, thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for his sustained support and recognized the backing of several key stakeholders, including:

Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS)

Agunbiade encouraged more corporate bodies to support the LSSTF’s mission of developing sports in public schools and empowering the next generation of athletes in Lagos.
