The Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja has ruled that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly must be joined as parties in the lawsuit filed by Hon. Mudashiru Obasa challenging his removal as Speaker.
Presiding over the case, Justice Yetunde Pinheiro adjourned proceedings until March 7, 2025, to hear all pending applications.
Obasa’s Legal Challenge
Hon. Obasa filed the suit after being removed from office on January 13, 2025, by 36 lawmakers, while he was reportedly out of the country. The application, dated February 12, 2025, was filed by his counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN).
Legal Representation
- Hon. Mojisola Meranda is being represented by a legal team led by Tayo Oyetibo (SAN) and Bimbo Akeredolu (SAN).
- The 36 lawmakers who removed Obasa are represented by Femi Falana (SAN) and Muiz Banire (SAN).
- Other parties seeking to be joined in the case are represented by Olu Daramola (SAN) and Dada Awosika (SAN).
With the court’s order, all Lagos Assembly members will now be directly involved in the legal proceedings, as the court prepares to determine the validity of Obasa’s removal.
