The Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment has given the management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and its outsourcing firm a seven-day ultimatum to renegotiate the mass dismissal of 3,000 workers.
The directive was issued by the Oyo State Comptroller of the ministry, Mr. Festus Igbinosun, following a meeting involving IBEDC management, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the outsourcing firm, and representatives of the affected workers.
Igbinosun emphasized that resolving the issue within the given timeframe would help maintain industrial harmony in the state.
Oyo State NLC Chairman, Kayode Martins, criticized the mass sacking, stating that it did not follow due process. He urged IBEDC and the outsourcing firm to reinstate the affected workers during the renegotiation process.
In response, representatives of IBEDC and the outsourcing firm agreed to review the dismissals within the stipulated period.
