Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has mandated all residents to register with the state’s registration agency to facilitate the creation of an accurate citizen database.
The directive, issued over the weekend, aims to document all residents and provide them with unique State Security Identification (SSID) numbers and cards.
Acting General Manager of the Kwara State Residents Registration Agency, Tajudeen Jimoh, emphasized the importance of accurate data in ensuring security, effective governance, and economic planning.
“We are implementing this directive across 96 registration centers statewide, with plans to expand as the process continues,” Jimoh stated. He also noted that the agency is collaborating with key government ministries, including Education, Human Capital Development, Tertiary Education, Local Government, and Social Investment Programmes, to mobilize residents for the exercise.
He further explained that the SSID number will become a mandatory requirement for various activities, including student registrations, scholarship applications, and access to government benefits.
“For instance, students registering for entrance exams such as Common Entrance, JSS, and SSCE, as well as those seeking admission into state-owned tertiary institutions, will need to provide their SSID numbers alongside those of their parents or guardians,” Jimoh added.
The state government had previously enrolled all civil servants and pensioners into the system, marking significant progress in building a credible residents’ database. Authorities are urging citizens to participate in the registration, emphasizing its role in enhancing security and ensuring data-driven governance for the overall development of Kwara State.
