An official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Steven Asibi, has recounted the harrowing ordeal of his heavily pregnant wife, Dorathy, who was abducted, forced into labor, and had her newborn taken away by kidnappers.
Asibi, a native of Okrika in Rivers State, revealed that Dorathy went missing on February 7, 2025, after leaving home with only her phone and charger. Their last exchange was via text, unaware it would be their final conversation before her abduction.
After numerous failed attempts to reach her, Asibi alerted neighbors and friends before reporting her disappearance to the police. Searches at hospitals and health centers yielded no results.
Three days later, an unknown caller demanded a ₦24 million ransom, giving him only 24 hours to comply. Asibi, refusing to be intimidated, reported the threat to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, which began tracking the suspects.
On February 12, five days after her disappearance, Dorathy was found at D-Young Junction, disoriented and covered in dirt. Witnesses reported that she had arrived in a tricycle and sat motionless in front of a cement shop, staring blankly as though in a trance.
Medical examinations confirmed that she had undergone forced labor, but her baby was missing. Dorathy recounted that she had entered a taxi with another passenger, only to wake up in the trunk of a car, blindfolded. Her captors injected her with an unknown substance, forcing her into labor before taking her baby.
Asibi believes the kidnappers had been monitoring his wife’s pregnancy before abducting her. While relieved she was found alive, he remains devastated over their missing child. The police have launched an investigation, tracking the phone number used for the ransom demand.
As the search for the newborn continues, Asibi remains resolute in seeking justice, declaring that those responsible will face the consequences of their actions.
