Kid Cudi Testifies in Diddy Trial: “He Set My Car on Fire”

US rapper Kid Cudi has delivered explosive testimony in the ongoing federal trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs, recounting a 2012 incident where his home was broken into and his car was torched—allegedly in retaliation for his brief romance with singer Cassie Ventura.
Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, took the stand in Manhattan federal court on Thursday, backing up earlier claims made by Ventura, who accused Combs of years of psychological and physical abuse.
“I just wanted to put her somewhere she’d be off the radar,” Mescudi said, recalling how he sheltered Ventura at the Sunset Marquee hotel after she called him “scared” and “nervous” when Combs found out about their relationship.

Combs Allegedly Showed Up at Cudi’s House
Mescudi testified that while he and Ventura were in hiding, Combs’s assistant Capricorn Clark contacted them, revealing that she had been forced to accompany Combs to Mescudi’s home. Mescudi called Combs directly, who told him, “I’m over here waiting for you.”
Upon arriving at the house, Mescudi said he didn’t see Combs but found his dog locked in a bathroom, an unusual occurrence. Rather than confront Combs, he chose to call the police.
Shortly after the break-in, in January 2012, Mescudi received a call from his dog sitter: his car was on fire.

Jurors were shown six photos of the destroyed car, which was found next to a Molotov cocktail. Prosecutors highlighted this act of arson as part of a broader pattern of criminal behavior attributed to Combs.
When asked about his reaction to seeing the wreckage, Cudi bluntly stated: “What the fuck.”

Cudi’s account supports claims made earlier by Ventura, who testified that Combs was enraged by her fling with the rapper. She told jurors that Combs had previously threatened to “blow up” Mescudi’s vehicle.
“He told me about videos that he had that he was going to release, and how he was going to hurt Scott and I,” she said.

Federal prosecutors allege that Combs, 55, led a decades-long criminal enterprise that involved sex trafficking, arson, bribery, and kidnapping. If found guilty, he faces a potential life sentence.
When asked if Combs had admitted to burning the car, Mescudi said the mogul “played dumb” and denied knowing anything about it.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Combs reportedly said.
“That he was lying,” Cudi told the court.
As the trial continues, both Ventura’s and Cudi’s testimonies have added weight to the prosecution’s case against one of hip hop’s most powerful figures.
