Katsina Gears Up for Global World Hausa Day Celebration
Preparations are in full swing as Katsina State readies to join the world in celebrating World Hausa Day on August 26, 2025. The event, which honours the rich history, language, and heritage of the Hausa people, will be hosted at the Emir of Daura’s palace in Daura, Katsina State.
Governor Radda’s Full Support for the Celebration
According to Dr Kabir Ali-Masanawa, Executive Secretary of the Katsina State History and Culture Bureau, this year’s celebration marks the first time the event will enjoy full state backing. Governor Dikko Radda is personally committed to making it a resounding success.
“This year, at least 24 countries will join in celebrating the day. We recently visited the Emir’s Palace in Daura to seek blessings and reaffirm our pride in Hausa history,” Ali-Masanawa said.
A Showcase of Hausa Heritage
Traditional Arts, Music, and Dance
The celebration will highlight Hausa heritage through traditional music, dance, and attire, offering visitors an authentic cultural experience.
Culinary Excellence
Hausa cuisine will also take centre stage, with demonstrations of how iconic dishes are prepared and served. Visitors will enjoy a culinary experience that reflects the hospitality the Hausa are known for.
Security and Tourism in Katsina
Ali-Masanawa assured participants that Katsina is safe for visitors, with improved security making it an attractive cultural and Islamic tourism destination.

Origins of World Hausa Day
Malam Abdulbaki Jari, a member of the organising committee, explained that World Hausa Day began in 2015 to celebrate the Hausa language and culture. Hausa is currently the 11th most spoken language globally, with projections showing it could rise even higher by 2050.
“Tourists travel to Paris or Rome for history — we want them to come to Katsina for Hausa heritage,” Jari stated.
International Representation
Dignitaries from the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, and for the first time the Netherlands will attend. Photos and videos from celebrations across continents will be shared to foster unity among the global Hausa community.
