Kano State Closes Entertainment Venues for Ramadan
The Kano State authorities have ordered the immediate closure of all entertainment hubs, including event centres, gala houses, and DJ operations across the state. The directive, announced by the Kano State Censorship Board on Tuesday, takes effect from 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and will remain in force throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, the board’s Public Relations Officer, said the measure aims to allow residents to observe fasting and participate in religious activities peacefully. He added that the decision aligns with the agency’s mandate to regulate entertainment venues and ensure compliance with state laws governing leisure activities.
The board assured residents that the date for reopening, particularly for Eid celebrations, will be communicated in due course. It urged all operators and stakeholders in the entertainment sector to adhere strictly to the closure order, noting that compliance is key to maintaining public order and facilitating a tranquil environment for spiritual observance.
The directive has generated mixed reactions online, with some supporting the emphasis on religious observance, while others expressed concern over its impact on local businesses. Authorities stressed that the measure is temporary and intended to respect the sanctity of the Ramadan period.
