Father of Suspect Demands Execution
Malam Auwal, father of Umar, publicly rejected his son, describing him as “useless to society” and insisting he should be executed rather than imprisoned.
“What he committed against my younger sister and her six children is condemnable. I distance myself from him,” Auwal said. He also alleged that Umar had previously killed his younger sister by removing her eyes.
The father commended the police for their handling of the case but stated he and his wife would not attend any court proceedings.
Kano Government Takes Over Prosecution
Following directives from Governor Abba Yusuf, Kano State has assumed responsibility for prosecuting the suspects to ensure justice for the victims. Attorney General Abdulkarim Maude SAN assured residents that due process, transparency, and accountability would guide the investigation and trial.
Maude also commended the police for their swift and professional response and urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
Peter Obi Praises Police Response
Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi described the killings as a national tragedy and lauded the Nigerian Police Force for their rapid action. He said that consistent, intelligence-driven policing could reduce crime and restore public confidence in security institutions.
