Kano Court Orders TikTokers to Marry Within 60 Days
A magistrate court sitting in Kano has ordered two popular TikTok personalities, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to get married within 60 days following their involvement in viral videos described as “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.
Court Labels Videos as “Indecent” and Contrary to State Morals
The viral clips, which captured the duo engaging in romantic gestures, were said to be contrary to the moral and religious standards upheld in Kano State. The board argued that such acts breach the state’s strict laws regulating public conduct and media content.
Magistrate Orders Hisbah Board to Facilitate Marriage
Presiding over the case on Monday, Magistrate Halima Wali directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage between Mai Wushirya and Yar Guda within the stipulated 60 days.
The magistrate warned that failure to conduct the marriage within the set timeframe would be treated as contempt of court, with legal consequences for non-compliance.
Censorship Board to Supervise Marriage Process
In addition to Hisbah’s role, the court mandated the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to oversee the proper implementation of the marriage order.
This directive followed weeks of legal proceedings in which the two content creators were arraigned for allegedly producing and circulating obscene material on social media platforms.
Previous Detention and Moral Allegations
Earlier in the proceedings, Idris Mai Wushirya was remanded in a correctional facility after videos showing him and the female content creator engaging in what authorities termed “immoral and demeaning acts” went viral.
The Censorship Board maintained that their actions violated state laws prohibiting the production and distribution of sexually suggestive or obscene material, a move consistent with Kano’s ongoing enforcement of public morality standards.
