The Kaduna State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has plunged into crisis following the expulsion of its Deputy Chairman, Ahmed Mustapha, and eight other key officials over alleged gross misconduct, insubordination, and attempts to usurp leadership within the party.

The expulsions were part of resolutions reached during an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Kaduna on Wednesday.

According to insiders, the move was a “necessary purge to restore discipline and unity” within the Kaduna ADC.

Party Accuses Expelled Members of Forgery and Extortion

In a statement outlining the SEC’s resolutions, the expelled members were accused of holding secret meetings to plot leadership changes, forging party documents, and extorting money from members, in violation of the ADC’s constitution.

The party said their actions were “capable of undermining the unity, image, and lawful operation of the ADC in Kaduna and the North-West zone.”

Chairman Ambut: ‘No Individual Is Above the Party’s Law’

Speaking at a press conference after the meeting, Kaduna State ADC Chairman, Elder Patrick Ambut, emphasized that the decision was taken in line with due process.

“As law-abiding members of the ADC, we are committed to upholding the party’s constitution and safeguarding its integrity. No individual, no matter his position, is above the law of the party,” Ambut declared.

He accused the Deputy Chairman, Mustapha, of abuse of office, impersonation, and actions capable of causing disharmony across the North-West zone.

“These actions constitute a gross violation of the ADC constitution and are contrary to established party procedures,” he added.

Leadership Adjustments Within Kaduna ADC

The SEC also announced the appointment of Alex Tagwai, the Deputy State Publicity Secretary, as Acting Publicity Secretary, pending further adjustments within the state executive.

Ambut said the decision was endorsed unanimously by SEC members, local government chairmen, and stakeholders during the meeting.

“Mr. Tagwai will immediately assume responsibilities to ensure the smooth functioning of the publicity unit and prevent communication gaps,” Ambut said.

He urged all party members to remain calm and loyal to the constituted leadership, warning that any further acts of indiscipline would be dealt with decisively.
