Former President Muhammadu Buhari Dies in London

Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away in London, the United Kingdom.

The announcement was made by his former aide, Bashir Ahmad, via a post on X (formerly Twitter), on Saturday.

“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus. Amin,” Ahmad wrote.

Buhari, 81, led Nigeria as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), following an earlier tenure as military head of state from 1983 to 1985.

A figure known for his anti-corruption campaign, conservative values, and efforts to revamp the economy, Buhari remained a polarizing but significant figure in Nigerian politics.

Further information about funeral and burial arrangements is expected to be released by the family in line with Islamic traditions.
