Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has announced plans to return to Anfield on the final day of the Premier League season, accepting an invitation from his successor, Arne Slot.
Since departing at the end of last season, Klopp has refrained from visiting to avoid influencing the Reds’ pursuit of the Premier League title.
Under Slot’s leadership, Liverpool has surpassed expectations, currently holding a 13-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the table and poised to secure the championship. Slot’s tenure has been marked by resilience and tactical adaptability, introducing a dynamic, possession-based style that complements Liverpool’s aggressive ethos. Key players like Mohamed Salah have excelled, with Salah delivering some of the best performances of his career.
Klopp expressed his intention to join supporters for the final game, stating during a fundraiser in Cape Town: “Yes, the plan is [to be in Liverpool] but not on the bus; I will be there with the people I saw on the bus. I didn’t want to go earlier because I didn’t want to jinx it. If I’m in the stadium for the first time and they lose, ‘oh f*** sake’. So I’ll go there when it’s decided.”
Slot, who took over in June 2024, has led Liverpool to an impressive season, including a 5-0 victory over West Ham United, placing the team eight points ahead of second-placed Nottingham Forest and 14 points clear of Manchester City. Liverpool has suffered only one loss in all competitions this season.
Klopp’s anticipated return underscores the strong bond he maintains with the club and its supporters, as Liverpool approaches a potential Premier League title under Slot’s guidance.
