Music executive and former manager of P-Square, Jude Okoye, has been released from EFCC custody after spending more than two months in detention over allegations of N1.38 billion fraud.
The news of his release was confirmed on Wednesday, April 24, by his younger brother, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy of the defunct P-Square group. Paul took to his Instagram stories to share clips of the family welcoming Jude back home and celebrating his return.
“Jude is finally out after 2months + .. all their efforts to frustrate his bail has finally collapsed. Welcome home brother #judeengees. And happy birthday. Welcome back blood,” Paul wrote.
Jude Okoye had been held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following his arraignment in February on multiple counts of money laundering and misappropriation of royalties allegedly meant for the P-Square music group. The charges included allegations of using a company registered in his wife’s name to divert music earnings.
In a dramatic twist, Peter Okoye commonly known as Mr. P testified against his elder brother in court last week. He detailed how Jude allegedly concealed company registrations and siphoned funds meant to be shared equally among the P-Square members.
The case, which has deepened the ongoing rift between the Okoye brothers, was adjourned to June 4 for cross-examination.
Jude Okoye was granted bail in the sum of ₦100 million, with an additional ₦50 million for supplementary charges. He was released upon fulfilling the bail conditions.
Despite maintaining his innocence, Jude’s legal battle is far from over, as court proceedings are expected to continue in the coming months.
