Former Jigawa Governor Endorses Jonathan for PDP Presidential Ticket
Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has endorsed ex-president Goodluck Jonathan as the strongest option for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, August 8, 2025, Lamido said Jonathan stands out in terms of pedigree, political experience, and leadership temperament.
“No Better Alternative in PDP” – Lamido
Lamido praised Jonathan’s track record, describing him as cool-headed, willing to listen, and committed to partnership and consensus-building.
“So far in the PDP, with all due respect to all members, I don’t see any better alternative than Jonathan. If he comes into PDP, I don’t see any other person who can challenge him,” Lamido stated.
He added that if the presidency is zoned to the South, Jonathan would be the most formidable candidate for the party.
Calls for PDP to Woo Jonathan Back
Lamido urged the PDP leadership to actively court Jonathan ahead of 2027.
“I think for PDP now, they should try to woo him. To me, he is their best bet. Anybody put forth by the PDP, Nigerians will support him. He is competent, qualified, and most welcome,” he said.
Jonathan’s Political Positioning Ahead of 2027
Goodluck Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, has not officially declared his interest in the 2027 race. However, political discussions around his potential candidacy have gained traction, especially within PDP circles.
Lamido’s endorsement adds weight to calls for Jonathan’s return to the party’s frontline ahead of the next general election.
