Photographer and Agency Allege Unauthorized Use of Images
American actress and singer Jennifer Lopez is facing a $300,000 copyright infringement lawsuit for allegedly posting professional photographs from the 2025 Golden Globe Awards on her social media without obtaining proper authorization, according to Billboard.
The lawsuit was filed by celebrity photographer Edwin Blanco and his agency Backgrid, who claim that Lopez used two of their copyrighted photos without permission.

On January 5, Lopez dazzled at the Golden Globes red carpet in a flowing white gown with a matching faux fur coat. Shortly after the event, she shared five images from the evening on her social media with the caption, “GG Weekend Glamour.”
The post quickly gained traction, reshared by fans and media outlets across platforms. However, Blanco and Backgrid claim that two of the five images belonged to them and were used without a valid license.
Commercial Intent Behind the Post, Suit Alleges
Promotion of Fashion Brands Highlighted in Filing
The lawsuit argues that Lopez’s use of the images was commercial in nature, meant to promote her fashion affiliations and brand partnerships.
“Ms Lopez’s unauthorised use of the Images is commercial in nature, intended for the purpose of self-promotion,” the legal document reads.
The suit further alleges that Lopez tagged designers and brands in the post, leveraging the global visibility of the Golden Globes to boost her commercial interests.
Previous Image Rights Disputes Resurface
This is not the first time Lopez has been in legal trouble over image rights. She previously faced similar lawsuits in 2019 and 2020 for posting professional photographs without licensing agreements.
In the current case, Backgrid claims that Lopez’s team had initially discussed licensing terms but failed to finalize the agreement, leading to the legal action.
