During a powerful conversation at the #LiveWithChude event hosted by Chude Jideonwo, Pastor Jerry Eze, the founder of Streams of Joy International and convener of the viral NSPPD prayer movement, addressed long-standing public misconceptions about his teachings on divine healing and medicine.
Speaking candidly, Eze said, “I’ve not said to anyone ‘don’t access medicare’. But we also know the limits of medicare.” The statement, delivered on stage, came as a direct response to critics who believe his emphasis on miracles may discourage people from seeking medical care.
Clarifying his position, Pastor Eze explained that in his ministry, New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declarations (NSPPD), the approach to health is holistic. “When someone is not feeling fine, we say, ‘Please, we are going to call the hospital to check,’” he added. This, he said, reflects a balance between spiritual intervention and medical responsibility.
Over the years, the NSPPD platform has drawn global attention for its intense online prayer sessions and a wave of miraculous testimonies—from cancer reversals to restored pregnancies and instant healings. The phrase “What God cannot do does not exist” has become a signature declaration of faith among followers.
However, Pastor Eze insists that none of these testimonies are meant to downplay the importance of medical science. Rather, they highlight God’s intervention where human efforts end.
“We celebrate the doctors, we honour their work, but we also believe that there are situations only God can turn around,” he said.
