Improving Education: NOWA’s Initiatives in Nigeria Navy Schools

The Federal Government of Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China have joined forces to enhance the quality of education by upgrading facilities in Nigeria Navy Secondary Schools nationwide.

As part of this collaboration, new infrastructure has been constructed and equipped at the Navy Secondary School in Offa, Kwara State. The interventions include a 150-capacity Examination and Dining Hall, a Computer Center with space for 50 students, and a Home Economics Laboratory with a 40-student capacity.

Speaking at the commissioning of these facilities, the National President of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Mrs. Blessing Ijeoma Ogalla, highlighted the significance of the new additions. She stated that the facilities were designed to improve the learning environment and provide students with the necessary resources to excel academically and practically.

Mrs. Ogalla emphasized the importance of the Examination and Dining Hall in creating a conducive atmosphere for students to focus on their studies. She also noted that the Computer Laboratory would expose students to digital tools essential for modern education, while the Home Economics Laboratory would equip them with practical life skills.

Reaffirming NOWA’s commitment to fostering an enriching academic environment, Mrs. Ogalla described the project as a major milestone for the school. She also acknowledged the vital support of the Chinese Embassy, which funded the initiative, ensuring that the resources were effectively utilized.

Represented at the event by NOWA’s National Vice President, Mrs. Zainab Akpan, Mrs. Ogalla extended gratitude to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla, for his leadership and unwavering support in making the association’s educational projects successful.

She assured that NOWA would continue to collaborate and innovate to improve educational standards, urging students and staff to maximize the opportunities provided by the new facilities.

In his welcome address, the Commandant of the Navy Secondary School, Offa, Muktar Lawal, commended NOWA’s efforts in enhancing education within Navy schools. He noted that the new infrastructure would significantly support students in achieving their academic goals.

Lawal, however, appealed to stakeholders for additional support, including more computer systems, improved internet facilities, additional seating, and air conditioning to further enhance the learning experience.
