Igbo Group Says APC Claims Are Exaggerated
The Igbo Community Association in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has strongly dismissed claims by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is gaining strength in the South East.
The group described the claim as a gross exaggeration and insisted that it does not reflect the political reality in Igboland.
“This Endorsement Does Not Represent Igbos”
Reacting in a statement on Sunday, the President of the association, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, said the recent endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid by South East APC stakeholders was engineered and lacked grassroots support.
“President Tinubu has not done enough to deserve such an Uzodimma-engineered endorsement,” Ellis-Ezenekwe said.
He stressed that the Igbo people continue to feel marginalised and excluded from Nigeria’s political and economic mainstream under the current administration.
Uzodimma’s Push Sparks Backlash
Governor Uzodimma had earlier rallied APC leaders from the South East behind Tinubu’s second-term ambition, arguing that backing the President would help reposition the region politically.
However, the Igbo community in Abuja dismissed the move as self-serving, accusing Uzodimma of using the endorsement to advance his own political interests.
“Igbos are not part of this endorsement. This is a sham, a publicity stunt by Uzodimma to boost his own political career,” Ellis-Ezenekwe stated.
“APC Is Not Popular in Igboland”
The association was blunt in its assessment of the APC’s standing in the South East, insisting that the party lacks genuine support in the region.
“APC is not popular in Igboland. It’s only Uzodimma and a few others who are trying to force it down our throats,” the group said.
Economic Hardship, Insecurity Cited
The Igbo community also challenged claims that Tinubu’s reforms are yielding positive results, pointing instead to worsening living conditions across the country.
“The economy is in shambles, insecurity is rampant, and our children are suffering,” Ellis-Ezenekwe said.
“What reforms is he talking about?”
The group argued that Nigerians are yet to feel the promised benefits of the administration’s policies.
Call for Accountability, Not Political Rhetoric
Beyond rejecting the endorsement, the association called on the APC-led government to focus on governance and accountability, rather than political messaging.
“We want to see action, not just words. This is not just about Igbo; it’s about Nigeria’s future,” Ellis-Ezenekwe added.
Growing Dissent Ahead of 2027
The statement adds to growing public dissent over early political alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly as economic pressures and security concerns continue to dominate national discourse.
