The First Lady has inaugurated the “Sen. Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre” at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, expressing her desire to serve as a role model for young girls in a generation she says lacks visible role models.
Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday, the First Lady said, “All along, I have been thinking that I should be a case study for young girls.” She noted that envy, misinformation, and negativity on social media have made it harder for young people to find figures worth emulating.
She urged young girls to learn to dream positively, recalling that she had always wanted to become a teacher while growing up and eventually achieved that dream. According to her, the Dream Centre will feature a storytelling room where her life journey will be shared to inspire others.
“This centre is not for girls alone; it is also for boys. We have books and materials that we brought in. Some will be given out for free, while others will be kept in a small library where you can read and leave,” she said.
The ICT centre was built by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and is designed to promote digital skills, artificial intelligence, and storytelling for historical preservation and youth development.
NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Abdullahi, said the centre combines technology and storytelling to preserve history and equip younger generations with tools to navigate life.
Oba Ogunwusi commended the First Lady for her commitment to education, noting that the centre would preserve her legacy for generations to come. The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adebayo Bamire, also praised the partnership that led to the project.
