A man, Abubakar Sadiq, has confessed to participating in a plot that led to the murder of his elder brother after he was promised ₦2 million by the masterminds behind the crime.
Sadiq, who is now in the custody of the Adamawa State Police Command, admitted that he received ₦130,000 as a deposit before agreeing to play his role in the scheme.
The victim, Alhaji Sadiq Kawu Boga, was a businessman resident in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. He was killed on January 20, 2026.
According to the police, Sadiq was responsible for monitoring his elder brother’s movements and relaying his whereabouts to the attackers. He was arrested by police operatives acting on intelligence reports following the murder.
The Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect conspired with five other individuals who are currently at large.
Nguroje disclosed that Sadiq acted as a torchbearer against his own brother, providing critical information that enabled the attackers to carry out the killing.
Quoting the suspect, Nguroje said:
“I was told to watch my elder brother and inform them whenever he was at home or moving around. After I received the alert of ₦130,000 in my bank account, I agreed. I regret my actions deeply. I sold out my own blood brother for ₦130,000, and I am truly sorry.”
The police spokesperson added that Sadiq later attended a meeting in a dense bush where final plans for the murder were concluded.
Nguroje confirmed that the suspect will remain in police custody while investigations continue, as efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining members of the gang.
