Armed Bandits Attack Girls’ School in Kebbi
Armed bandits launched a deadly attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, located in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, in the early hours of Monday.
The attackers stormed the school around dawn, shooting sporadically and overpowering local security personnel on duty.
Vice Principal Killed, 25 Students Abducted
During the attack, the bandits shot and killed the school’s vice principal, identified by local sources as Malam Hassan Yakubu Makuku.
At least 25 female students were abducted and taken away by the gunmen, who reportedly escaped on motorcycles toward forested areas bordering neighbouring Zamfara State.
Some staff members and a security guard were also injured while attempting to protect the students.
Security Forces Launch Rescue Operation
Kebbi State authorities and federal security agencies have condemned the assault, describing it as a targeted attack on education and community safety.
The state government confirmed that police, military units, and vigilante groups have been deployed to track the abductors and secure the release of the girls.
Officials say the operation is ongoing and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The incident has reignited fears over insecurity in the Northwest, where banditry and mass abductions continue to threaten rural communities and learning institutions.
