Governor Alia Sends Eight Commissioner-Nominees to Benue Assembly for Screening
Days after dissolving his cabinet, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has transmitted the first batch of eight commissioner-nominees to the Benue State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
The announcement was made on Friday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, who described the move as a strategic step to strengthen the machinery of governance and ensure efficient service delivery across the state.
Cabinet Reshuffle After Council Dissolution
The development follows Governor Alia’s recent dissolution of the Benue State Executive Council, which he announced during the 12th meeting of the council in 2025. All commissioners were relieved of their duties.
In the immediate aftermath of the dissolution, the governor appointed Barrister Moses Atagher, a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, as his new Chief of Staff.

The first batch of commissioner-nominees forwarded to the Assembly includes:
- Hon. Theresa Odachi Ikwue
- Hon. Dr. Benjamin Ashaver
- Hon. Dr. Adamu Margaret Ijaguwa
- Hon. Dr. Peter Oboh Egbodo
- Dr. Yangien Timothy Ornguga
- Hon. Denis Iyaighgba
- Hon. James Dwem
- Dr. Paul Ejeh Ogwuche
Kula also disclosed that a second batch of nominees will be forwarded to the Assembly in the coming days.
Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency
Governor Alia, according to the statement, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to transparency, competence, and inclusivity in the appointment process.
“These individuals will help drive the administration’s vision and mission for Benue State,” he said.
The screening process is expected to begin shortly at the Benue State House of Assembly.
