Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has donated 50 operational vehicles to security agencies to enhance their capacity in tackling crime and maintaining peace in the state.
The governor announced the donation on Wednesday at the second Gombe State Security Summit, themed “Building a Safer and More Secure Gombe State: Addressing Insecurity through Collective Action.”
Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies with the necessary resources to effectively carry out their duties. He urged them to utilize the vehicles efficiently and remain dedicated to ensuring the safety of residents.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration in tackling security challenges, the governor emphasized the need for synergy between security forces, traditional rulers, community leaders, and religious figures. He acknowledged that while Gombe remains relatively stable, it faces challenges such as communal clashes, farmer-herder conflicts, banditry, and kidnapping.
To address the root causes of insecurity, Yahaya stated that his government is investing in youth empowerment, job creation, education, and good governance. He emphasized a proactive approach to security, including early threat detection, regular stakeholder engagement, and conflict prevention strategies.
“This approach allows us to identify and address conflicts before they escalate. By leading from the front and prioritizing the welfare of our people, we have been able to maintain relative peace and stability in Gombe,” he said.
Regarding the security summit, Yahaya noted that it serves as a platform for key stakeholders to discuss and propose solutions to the security challenges in the state and the broader North-East region. The government, he added, would utilize the recommendations from the summit to develop a sustainable peace strategy.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for progress made in combating banditry, insurgency, and other crimes nationwide.
“I thank Mr. President for his commitment to the security, stability, and territorial integrity of our nation. I also appreciate the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, for his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s security,” Yahaya stated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the summit brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for improving security in Gombe and beyond.
