Governor Alia Upholds House Resolution on Suspensions
Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has finally approved the suspension of three public officials in line with the resolutions passed by the Benue State House of Assembly.
The suspended officials include:
Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area
Mrs. Grace Adagba, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB)
Mr. Michael Uper, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Commission
Each official is suspended for a period of one month, effective immediately.
Tension Between Executive and Legislature
The decision follows weeks of tension between the executive and legislative arms of government. The House of Assembly had earlier passed a resolution calling for the suspensions, but the governor’s delay in affirming the directive triggered a political face-off.
With this approval, Governor Alia has aligned with the legislature’s position, easing the standoff.
Official Statement from the Governor’s Office
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia confirmed the suspensions and emphasized his administration’s respect for due process.
“In line with the resolutions passed by the House, His Excellency affirms the following: the suspension of Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, Mrs. Grace Adagba, and Mr. Michael Uper, each for one month, effective from today,” the statement read.
The governor stressed his commitment to the rule of law, separation of powers, and accountability, assuring citizens that service delivery would not be disrupted during this period.

Governor Alia commended the House of Assembly for exercising its constitutional responsibilities, noting that the development reflects a working democracy in Benue State.
He further urged the people of Benue to continue supporting his administration’s efforts toward transparency, accountability, and the delivery of good governance.
