Nollywood actress, filmmaker, and producer Funke Akindele has solidified her place as one of Nigeria’s most commercially successful entertainers, recording a remarkable series of box office hits over the past five years.
According to industry figures, the Ikorodu-born actress has grossed over ₦6 billion from five consecutive high-performing films:
Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020) – ₦636 million
Battle on Buka Street (2022) – ₦668 million
A Tribe Called Judah (2023) – ₦1.4 billion
Everybody Loves Jenifa (2024) – ₦1.88 billion
Behind the Scenes (2025) – ₦1.77 billion
Breaking Records, One Film at a Time
Akindele’s rise began in 2020 with the Christmas release of Omo Ghetto: The Saga, which earned over ₦636 million nationwide, marking her as a dependable box office draw.
She maintained this momentum with Battle on Buka Street in 2022, a comedy-drama that outperformed several foreign titles in Nigerian cinemas and earned approximately ₦668 million.
The milestone moment came in 2023 when A Tribe Called Judah surpassed ₦1 billion, grossing around ₦1.4 billion, becoming one of the first Nollywood films to achieve this. Akindele then broke her own record in 2024 with Everybody Loves Jenifa, which reportedly grossed nearly ₦1.88 billion, cementing its place as the highest-grossing Nollywood film at the time.
In 2025, her dominance continued with Behind the Scenes, which earned over ₦1.7 billion within weeks of release, becoming the year’s top domestic film.
