The Anambra Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that a fatal accident near the Idemili River, close to the Second Niger Bridge, claimed four lives on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters in Awka on Thursday, Sector Commander Mrs. Joyce Alexander attributed the crash to speeding and loss of control, which led to a head-on collision.
According to Alexander, the accident involved a brown Mercedes trailer without a registration number, a white commercial bus with registration number XED526XA, and four unregistered Bajaj tricycles. Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer, carrying an unsecured container, was descending a hill at high speed when the driver lost control, crashing into five stationary vehicles.
“A total of six people were involved two adult males and four adult females. Unfortunately, four lost their lives, while two sustained injuries,” she said.
FRSC personnel promptly arrived at the scene to clear the wreckage and restore traffic. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Crown Hospital and St. Edward Hospital in Obosi, while the injured victims were rushed to Unity Hospital for treatment.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families, Alexander urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and take necessary precautions to ensure road safety.
