Former Agriculture Minister Audu Ogbeh Dies at 78
Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has passed away at the age of 78.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by his family on Saturday, August 9, 2025.
Family Confirms Peaceful Passing
According to the statement, Ogbeh died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Chief Audu Ogbeh,” the family said. “He departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community.”
The family described him as a man who touched countless lives and set a sterling example through decades of public service.
A Life of Service and Dedication
Born on July 28, 1947 in present-day Benue State, Ogbeh’s educational journey began at King’s College, Lagos (1967–1969), before moving on to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1969–1972). He later furthered his studies at the University of Toulouse, France (1973–1974).
Political and Ministerial Career
Ogbeh’s political career began as a member of the Benue State House of Assembly. He later served as Minister of Communications and subsequently as Minister of Agriculture under the Shehu Shagari administration (1979–1983).
Over the years, he became one of Nigeria’s most respected elder statesmen, admired for his contributions to governance, agriculture, and rural development.
