Fire Razes Houses and Farm Produce in Wannue
A devastating fire has destroyed over 300 houses in Wannue, Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving dozens of families displaced.
The blaze swept through clusters of thatch structures, small residential units, and large quantities of farm produce valued at millions of naira.
Victims Appeal for Assistance
One of the victims, Mr Moses Answa Agule, told The Nation that the fire occurred while he was away at the market.
“I got a call from my neighbours that my thatch houses, which served as yam barns, were on fire,” he said. “By the time I returned, all my stored foodstuff and thatch houses were destroyed.”
Moses called on well-meaning Nigerians and the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for assistance as residents struggle to recover.
Extent of Loss
Reports indicate that destroyed items included essential household belongings and farm produce such as yams, maize, cassava chips, and melon.
The fire has displaced about 95 households, leaving many families without shelter. The cause of the blaze has not yet been established.
