FG to Sell Selected State-Owned Assets to Private Investors in 2026

The federal government will begin the sale of selected state-owned assets to private investors in 2026, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun has confirmed.

Speaking during the AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies in Saudi Arabia on Monday, Edun said the government is still finalising which assets will be offered and the schedule for the transactions.

“The plan is to offer some assets in 2026,” the minister said, adding that ongoing economic reforms have improved investor confidence and made Nigeria more competitive.

“What we have put in place has made Nigeria very competitive in terms of economic conditions and very attractive in terms of incentives for investors. I think investors are now more comfortable investing in Nigeria,” Edun said.

The minister also emphasised the government’s preference for partnerships with the private sector, saying the focus is on optimising assets through investment rather than outright public control.

“We are interested in private-public partnerships, optimisation of our assets by having others come in and invest,” he said.

Edun tied the planned asset sales to the administration’s broader economic agenda, noting that job-rich and inclusive growth remains central to government policy. He said higher investment is essential to raising productivity and expanding the economy, while reforms aim to rebuild policy credibility and strengthen macroeconomic stability.
