Police Raid Fake Orphanage, Rescue 23 Children in Abuja

In a major breakthrough against child trafficking in Nigeria, the FCT Police Command has rescued 23 children from a suspected child trafficking syndicate operating under the guise of an orphanage in Kubwa, Abuja.

The operation, carried out by police operatives from Kubwa Division on March 20, 2025, at 12:05 PM, followed credible intelligence on suspicious activities at Mother Deborah Orphanage.

How the Operation Unfolded

Upon arrival, officers discovered a three-year-old child, suspected to have been stolen from Kaduna State. Two suspects, including the orphanage’s owner, Ijeoma Andy, were arrested.

Further investigations uncovered 22 more children, aged between 2 and 14 years (14 females and 8 males), believed to be victims of child trafficking.

Police Statement & Next Steps

FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that Ijeoma Andy failed to provide a reasonable account of the children’s origins.

“The 22 rescued children have since been taken into protective care, where they are receiving the necessary attention,” Adeh stated.

“The FCT Police Command remains committed to dismantling criminal networks that prey on innocent children and urges the public to report suspicious activities.”
