FCT Police Neutralise One ‘One Chance’ Robber, Arrest Six Others, Rescue Victim

Police Crack Down on ‘One Chance’ Robbery Syndicates in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified its fight against “one chance” robbery gangs, neutralising one suspect, arresting six others, rescuing a victim, and recovering their operational vehicle.

In a statement on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed that operatives attached to the Anti-One Chance Unit carried out the operation following a swift response to an incident along the Kubwa Expressway.

Victim Pushed Out of Moving Vehicle Along Kubwa Expressway

At about 8:30 a.m., officers on patrol spotted a woman, later identified as Angel Patrick, being pushed out of a moving vehicle.
One police team stopped immediately to rescue her and rushed her to Zankwochi Hospital, Mabushi, for urgent medical attention, while another undercover team pursued the fleeing suspects to Aso, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

Hot Chase Ends in Gun Duel and Arrests

Following a high-speed pursuit and a fierce gun battle, the suspects were forced to halt. Five suspects were arrested on the spot:

Jude Simon – Mararaba resident

Emmanuel Akor – Mpape

Daniel Benson – Mpape

Uche Thomas – Mpape

Tope Ola – Mpape

Their operational vehicle, a dark grey Toyota Corolla, was recovered at the scene.

One suspect was neutralised during the exchange of fire and later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital.

Repeat Offender Among Suspects

Investigations revealed that one of the suspects, John Simon, had previously been arrested in December 2024 for the same offence, charged to court, and remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre before resurfacing in the gang.

Items Recovered from Suspects

Police recovered the following exhibits from the suspects:

One dark grey Toyota Corolla operational vehicle

Six ATM cards suspected to belong to previous victims

One jackknife

₦115,000 in cash

Other personal items linked to past robberies

Suspects Confess to Years of Criminal Activity

The arrested suspects confessed to being long-term operators of “one chance” robbery, targeting unsuspecting passengers in Abuja and its environs.

Police Warn Residents to Stay Vigilant

FCT Commissioner of Police commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers and reassured residents of the Command’s determination to rid Abuja of criminal elements. He urged the public to remain vigilant and patronise only approved motor parks when boarding vehicles.
