FCT Police Arrest Pastor, Church Members Over Alleged Child Trafficking in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested Rev. Pastor Prince Bassey Ajah, the General Overseer of Wells of Salvation Church, over alleged child trafficking operations. The pastor, widely known as “Daddy G.O.,” was apprehended alongside two church members in Abuja.
Distress Call Exposes Child Trafficking Attempt
According to a statement released by FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh on Saturday, the arrest followed a distress call made on May 24, 2025, by officials of Wazobia Motor Park, Gwagwalada.
Police received reports of a man exhibiting suspicious behavior while attempting to board a vehicle with a child. The Police Emergency Response Team was swiftly deployed, resulting in the arrest of Isreal Ajah, who was caught trying to travel to Owerri, Imo State, with a 7-year-old boy in his custody.
Pastor Allegedly Supplied Child to Trafficker
Preliminary investigations revealed that the boy had been handed over to Isreal Ajah by his elder brother, Rev. Pastor Prince Bassey Ajah, the senior pastor of the Wells of Salvation Church in Byazhin Across, Abuja.
“Pastor Prince Ajah was promptly arrested alongside two other accomplices identified as Nancy Atoo and Deaconess Vera Duru,” said PPRO Adeh.
4-Year-Old Girl Rescued from Suspect’s Home
Further search of the suspects’ homes led to the rescue of another child, a 4-year-old girl identified only as “Mercy”, a name given to her by suspect Nancy Atoo. No identifying documents or family details were found with the child, who is currently in protective custody as police work to locate her biological family.
Children Were Being Trafficked for Sale
The police statement revealed that both children were being trafficked to Owerri for sale. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the plan, stating that the 7-year-old boy, identified as Muktar Hassan, was to be sold for ₦1.2 million in a deal allegedly facilitated by Deaconess Vera Duru.
“Further investigation revealed that both children were being trafficked to Owerri for sale,” Adeh confirmed.
Victim Reunited With Family, Investigation Ongoing
Muktar has since been reunited with his family, while the investigation continues. The FCT Police Command emphasized its commitment to dismantling child trafficking networks in the capital and across Nigeria.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity involving children or vulnerable individuals.
