Nigerian film actress Faithia Williams has revealed that her mother passed away shortly before her 55th birthday celebration, with the family choosing to keep the information from her until after the event.
The actress disclosed the development in a heartfelt message shared on her Instagram page on Monday, stating that her mother died on the eve of the birthday party she held on Thursday, February 5.
According to her, she only learned of the loss after the celebration had taken place.
Describing the decision to withhold the news as painful, Faithia said her mother had been a constant source of strength and companionship in her life.
She referred to her as her “cheerleader, prayer warrior, best friend and gist partner,” adding that the reality of the loss still feels overwhelming.
The actress noted that her family has opted for privacy at this time and will communicate burial arrangements later. She also appealed to fans and well-wishers for prayers and support for herself and her siblings.
Following her announcement, several colleagues in the entertainment industry publicly expressed condolences.
Among them were Aisha Lawal, who offered prayers in Yoruba, Muyiwa Ademola, who wished her mother eternal rest, and Wunmi Toriola, who prayed for divine comfort during the grieving period.
Faithia Williams, a respected figure in Nollywood, has built a long-standing career in both Yoruba and English-language films.
