A former Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Prof. Oyewale Tomori, has urged the Federal Government to ensure its reforms yield quick and tangible benefits to alleviate the suffering of ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, aired on Channels Television, the renowned virologist emphasized that Nigerians have shown patience over the past 22 months since President Bola Tinubu’s administration implemented policies such as petrol subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification.
“We must focus on the long term. Where are these economic policies leading us? Will they improve our current situation? If so, then patience is necessary,” Tomori stated.
He acknowledged some positive steps taken by the government but stressed the need for continuity and improvement. “It’s easy to criticize, but rebuilding takes time. However, while citizens are urged to be patient, the government must understand that patience has a limit. People need to see real, positive changes in their lives,” he warned.
Tomori called on the government to prioritize security and electricity, creating a conducive environment for Nigerians to thrive. He also challenged state governments to step up and actively contribute to improving citizens’ welfare.
