A former governor of Kaduna State and founding member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that some individuals secured ministerial positions in the current administration by paying bribes.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa service, the ex-governor, who also previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), claimed he personally knows individuals who paid to be appointed as ministers.
“I know those who even paid money to be appointed as ministers,” he stated.
When asked whether he left the ruling party because he was not given a ministerial position, he dismissed the notion, saying, “Did I even seek a ministerial position?”
He explained that he only attended the ministerial screening because the President personally urged him to join the government.
“Yes, I was at the screening because the President begged me. It was not a private discussion between the two of us it happened in public, in Kaduna, where he pleaded with me to work with him,” he revealed.
According to him, the President had expressed his determination to resolve Nigeria’s persistent electricity crisis and sought his expertise to tackle the issue.
“He told me that Nigeria’s lack of steady electricity had hindered its progress and that he wanted to be the President who would finally solve the problem. He begged me to help him achieve that,” the former governor said.
He further explained that he initially hesitated but later considered the request after assessing the challenge presented to him. “I thought he meant it,” he added.
