Veteran Nollywood actress and evangelist, Eucharia Anunobi, has threatened legal action against Psalm Okpe, founder of Fresh Oil Ministry International Church, over claims that they were romantically involved for more than five years.
The move follows the circulation of a leaked audio recording in which Okpe and another cleric, identified as Martins, made explicit remarks about alleged past sexual relationships involving Anunobi and a church leader, Chikere Nwafor.
Leaked audio sparks public backlash
The recording, which spread widely online, also contained unverified allegations of homosexuality against another male pastor, triggering outrage and condemnation on social media.
Okpe, who had previously ordained Anunobi into ministry, later released a public apology acknowledging the audio. He described the recording as “disturbing” and said he was “very embarrassed by those vulgar words”.
Anunobi rejects allegations, announces legal steps
Reacting, Anunobi condemned the cleric, calling him a “monumental global shame” and rejecting the claims as false.
In a detailed Instagram post, the 60-year-old preacher said the allegations had caused her emotional trauma and damaged her reputation.
She maintained that she has lived a celibate life since her ordination nearly 14 years ago, despite having been in courtship and engagements during that period.
“I want to state here categorically that in almost 14 years since I have been midwifed into ministry, I have been celibate and have been keeping myself for the man that will be deserving of my new virginity,” she said.
Anunobi added that none of the men she had been engaged to could claim to have had sexual relations with her, insisting that this formed the basis of her public preaching on righteousness.
Petitions filed in Nigeria and the US
The actress-turned-evangelist disclosed that she has commenced legal proceedings against Okpe and instructed her lawyers to petition both Nigerian and United States authorities.
According to her, the petitions, addressed to the Nigerian Police Force and the US Security and Immigration Department, cite defamation and what she described as long-standing threats to her ministry.
“So, I have instituted a legal action so that he can come and prove how he dated me for five years and six months,” Anunobi said, adding that the matter would not be swept under the carpet.
