Elon Musk Criticizes Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ as a ‘Disgusting Abomination’
Elon Musk, the former ‘First Buddy’ and billionaire entrepreneur, has entered the heated debate surrounding President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending legislation. Musk condemned the bill on his social platform X, describing it as a “disgusting abomination” that will significantly increase the United States’ federal deficit.
Musk’s Strong Reactions to the Trump Bill
In a direct post on X, Musk wrote:
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
The bill, known as the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, was narrowly passed by the House of Representatives last month with a single vote margin. It aims to extend the 2017 tax cuts originally championed by Trump during his first term.
Congressional Budget Office Warns of Rising Debt
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected that the bill would add approximately $3.8 trillion to the federal government’s already staggering $36.2 trillion debt. This alarming figure has become a focal point in the criticism from Musk and several GOP lawmakers.
Republican Leaders Defend the Controversial Bill
Despite Musk’s criticism, top Republican leaders have defended the legislation. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune both rejected Musk’s deficit calculations.
Johnson told reporters:
“It’s very disappointing. With all due respect, my friend Elon is terribly wrong.”
Thune also expressed disagreement but remained focused on passing the bill soon:
“My hope is that as he has an opportunity to further assess what this bill actually does, that he comes to a different conclusion. But nevertheless, we have a job to do.”
GOP Lawmakers Support Musk’s Fiscal Concerns
Contrary to Johnson and Thune, some hardline Republicans echoed Musk’s fiscal worries. Representatives Thomas Massie and Warren Davidson publicly endorsed Musk’s stance on X.
Davidson shared Musk’s post, calling it:
“The Big Beautiful Tweet.”
Senator Mike Lee urged the GOP to leverage the bill and future spending plans to aggressively reduce the deficit:
“We must commit now to doing so, as this is what voters justifiably expect – and indeed deserve – from the GOP Congress.”
Elon Musk’s Role in Trump Administration and Departure
Elon Musk was appointed by Trump to lead a government cost-cutting and efficiency initiative. During his tenure as a special government employee with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk implemented reforms but ultimately did not achieve the large-scale savings he sought.
Musk officially ended his formal government role last week. Prior to his departure, he criticized the bill in an interview, emphasizing its negative fiscal impact.
White House Stands Firm Amid Criticism
The White House dismissed Musk’s recent condemnation. Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said during a briefing:
“Look, the president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s sticking to it.”
