Musk Reacts to Explosive Drug Allegations
Tech entrepreneur and former U.S. federal official Elon Musk has denied explosive allegations published by The New York Times claiming he extensively used drugs including ketamine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms during the 2024 election cycle.
The report alleged that Musk, who served under President Donald Trump as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), used such high amounts of ketamine that it led to bladder complications. It further claimed Musk often traveled with a pill organizer carrying around 20 different medications.
Musk responded on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying:
“Also, to be clear, I am NOT taking drugs! The New York Times was lying their ass off.”
He added that while he had tried prescription ketamine years ago to treat depression a fact he previously disclosed it is not a substance he is currently using.

During a White House send-off marking the end of his DOGE appointment, Musk appeared with a noticeable black eye, prompting further questions. He clarified the injury came from play-fighting with his son, known publicly as “X.”
“I told him to punch me and he did,” Musk joked during the appearance.
When pressed by reporters about the drug use claims, Musk dismissed the questions and accused The New York Times of a smear campaign.
Trump’s Response and Public Reaction
When asked about Musk’s alleged drug use, former President Donald Trump stated:
“I wasn’t [aware], but I think Elon is a fantastic guy.”
Despite the controversy, Trump appeared unconcerned by the allegations, continuing to publicly support Musk.
