Bishop David Oyedepo has revealed that a massive power infrastructure will be required to meet the needs of the new Ark building, set to be one of the largest worship centers globally. According to the announcement made during the second service on May 4, 2025, 32 transformers will be used to power The Ark. This setup is crucial due to the building’s large energy demand, driven by its extensive facilities and congregation capacity.
The Ark, located in Canaanland, Ota, will have an impressive 109,000-seat auditorium, along with a 5,000-seat youth church and a 20,000-seat children’s church. The building’s four floors will be equipped with 129 elevators, escalators, and travelators, designed to assist worshippers, including elderly individuals and those with physical challenges, in moving efficiently through the facility. The use of stairs will not always be practical due to the scale of the building.
While Canaanland’s existing 15MW power plant, installed in 2016, has served the facility well, it is insufficient to meet the power requirements of The Ark. To address this, an 80MW power plant is under construction. The new plant will not only supply electricity to The Ark but will also support other facilities within Canaanland, including Covenant University and Canaan City. It may even extend power to parts of Ota.
Additionally, the Dome at Canaanland will draw 1MW from solar energy, contributing to the facility’s sustainable energy goals. The roof of The Ark is also designed to collect rainwater, which will be used to flush the 1,200 restrooms by gravity, further enhancing its eco-friendly features.
According to Bishop Oyedepo, Canaanland has enjoyed uninterrupted power supply since 1999, a rare achievement in Nigeria, where power outages are common. The new power plant is expected to be fully operational by the time The Ark is dedicated, ensuring that the facility will be ready to serve its global congregation without any power interruptions.
The dedication ceremony of The Ark is set for November 29, 2025, and will mark the completion of what is expected to be the largest church structure in the world. The project, financed without external loans, has progressed steadily since its inception, symbolizing the faith and commitment behind this monumental undertaking.
