Ebonyi’s Legacy FM Suspends Acting GM for Criticising Governor Nwifuru

A privately owned radio station in Ebonyi State, Legacy FM, has suspended its Acting General Manager, Mr. Godfrey Chikwere, over alleged persistent “negative” projections of Governor Francis Nwifuru and his policies.

The management announced the suspension with immediate effect, citing “unruly behaviour” and “disobedience to the station’s code of conduct.”

Criticism of Governor Nwifuru

Mr. Chikwere has recently criticised the Nwifuru administration both on-air and on social media, alleging:

Poor communication from the government.

Underperformance of political appointees.

Unfulfilled promises that, according to him, have eroded the governor’s goodwill among citizens.

Suspension to Remain in Place

The station’s management stated that the suspension would remain in force until further notice. As of press time, neither Governor Nwifuru nor Mr. Chikwere had issued official responses to the development.

The incident has sparked renewed debate over press freedom and the line between professional conduct and personal expression in Nigeria’s media industry.
