The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Agbor, has issued a query to one of its students, Nurse Osato Edobor, for posting a video on social media showing students disagreeing with the MC’s song during the visit of First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The incident occurred on March 25, 2025, during the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme at the Dome Event Center, Asaba, where the First Lady distributed 10,000 professional kits (crocs and scrubs) to midwives across Nigeria’s South-South Zone.
Viral Video Sparks Controversy
During the event, the MC led a song praising the First Lady, singing:
“Na our mama be this oo, we no get another one.”
However, the students countered the lyrics, responding:
“Na your mama be this oo eeh.”
A video of the exchange surfaced on TikTok, allegedly posted by Nurse Osato Edobor.
Disciplinary Action Threatened
The college management, through its Provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, issued a query, citing the act as a violation of the student handbook. The letter, titled “Query for Divulging Unauthorized Online Publication/Video on Social Media (TikTok, Facebook, etc.)”, states:
“It has come to the notice of the school authority that you, Student Nurse Osato Edobor, engaged in a malicious act of recording, singing, and posting an unofficial response to a song during the arrival of the First Lady.”
The school emphasized that this was a punishable offense under Standardized Disciplinary Action for Some Punishable Offences No. 8, Page 21 of the Student Handbook.
Edobor has been directed to submit a written explanation in triplicate copies within 24 hours, justifying why disciplinary action should not be taken against her.
Public Reactions & Social Media Backlash
The disciplinary action has sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning whether the school’s decision infringes on freedom of expression. Others argue that students should maintain professional conduct during official events.
As of now, neither the First Lady’s office nor the student involved has released an official statement regarding the incident.
