Hotel Manager Confesses to Killing POS Operator Over Fake Alert Dispute
22-Year-Old Bethel Declared Missing Since December
Tragedy has struck in Delta State as a hotel manager confessed to the killing of 22-year-old Onoriode Bethel, a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator who had been missing since December 13, 2024. Her body was found buried within the premises of Century Home Hotel in Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area.
Suspect Killed Victim Over Alleged Embarrassment
According to the Delta State Police Command, the suspect, identified as the hotel manager Iboirode, lured Bethel to the hotel under the pretense of resolving a financial disagreement. She had earlier accused him of using a fake bank alert to withdraw ₦10,000 fraudulently.
Although the matter was seemingly settled after she recovered her money, the suspect reportedly felt disgraced and sought revenge. He confessed to killing Bethel, burying her body on the hotel premises, and stealing money from her account.
Ransom Demand and PoS Withdrawal
After the murder, the suspect used Bethel’s phone to contact her father, demanding a ransom. He also coerced her into revealing her POS password, which he used to withdraw additional funds before dumping her belongings.
Police Recover Body, Arrest Suspect
Following thorough investigation, police exhumed Bethel’s body and arrested the hotel manager. His wife has also been taken into custody after confessing knowledge of the crime.
The Delta State Police Command has vowed to ensure justice is served and warned business owners and operators to be cautious about financial disputes.
