Dele Momodu: “I Will Never Join the APC”
Veteran journalist and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has firmly ruled out any possibility of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite ongoing internal challenges within the PDP.
Momodu made the declaration during an interview on Channels TV on Wednesday, where he criticised the APC’s leadership style and emphasized his unwillingness to be part of a system that, in his view, fosters dictatorship.
“APC Operates Like an Autocracy,” Says Momodu
The two-time presidential aspirant described the APC as a party where democracy is stifled, accusing its leadership of authoritarian tendencies.
“I definitely won’t join the APC. That one is out of the question. If I wanted to join the APC, I wouldn’t be talking to you the way I am this morning,” Momodu stated.
He went further to express his discomfort with the party’s decision-making process, which he believes lacks inclusivity and mutual respect.
“I cannot sit in a room where one man will dictate to able-bodied adults who have worked all their lives and say that he is the lord of the manor,” he added.
PDP in Crisis, But Momodu Stands Against Defection
While acknowledging the crisis currently rocking the PDP, Momodu insisted that his loyalty to democratic principles prevents him from defecting to the APC.
Interestingly, he admitted to a growing disconnection from his current party:
“My soul has already left the PDP; only my body remains,” he said candidly.
Only a Coalition Can Challenge Tinubu in 2027
Momodu also spoke on the prospects for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, insisting that President Bola Tinubu can only be defeated through a united front formed by a coalition of political parties.
“Only a coalition can wrest power from President Tinubu in 2027,” he declared, urging Nigeria’s fractured opposition parties to begin serious talks towards unity.
His comments come amid intensifying political speculation and realignment efforts ahead of the next general election cycle.
